Project Overview

The annual King of the Mountain race in Taiwan is known as one of the most challenging cycling races on the planet. DT Swiss is the main sponsor of this race and they asked us to create a video to showcase an individual rider as he raced his way up the mountain. This shoot was especially challenging as it required our six man team to be in sync with each other and find the ebbs and flow of the race.

Our team consisted of two camera operators, one drone pilot and some maniacal scooter drivers to get us in place. One of our cameras was on a Ronin Steadicam sitting backwards on a scooter, while the other was racing up in front of the riders to get perfect locked off clips on a tripod. The real star of the show was our drone pilot, Rayson. He was sending the drone up, flying it through tight caverns and caves, keeping our one rider in his sites and bringing the drone down at a totally different spot than he sent it up from.
